in an exchange with now at home on black cake – in response to her cooking fruitcakes in south africa I mentioned Black Cake and went in search of this treat – this sounds like a good starting point right here, I have just cleared out all my spices and also come back from Grenada carrying mixed essence, allspice, and ginger – I imagine there might be some allspice in there? and so I might give it a go:
Thank you for this recipe!!! I might try to make this too!!
Looks intriguing I think, also if your family is the fruit cake expert group then you might be bringing something new along to the table. I have never eaten it before myself though, but I do have a cookbook Trinidad and Tobago and looking through it I remember reading about Black Cake. Here is the link to the book – I think the recipe in the book calls for rum or whisky but would need to check, rum would make sense for the islands no? http://www.trinigourmet.com/index.php/sweet-hands-island-cooking-from-trinidad-and-tobago/
Loving it!
oh Mr Fitz – it’s cool isn’t it – have your cake and drink it!
Wonderful!
I know I think i have to go and make it too! Still some time before christmas!
Yes please! I love a boozy cake at this time if year!!!!
and you don’t even need lemons for it!
How interesting! Will try this one next year and will also try not to make 11 again…..OCD?
OCD – no of course not 🙂 – all depends on how you look at it – 11 seems really reasonable for some….depends on how big your party is…..it is a largish number though yes? I spent the weekend labeling all my spices and herbs – currently haven’t got much work on so am organising the cupboards so wouldn’t dare comment on OCD!
Yummy! What’s not to love ♡
🙂 agreed!
Welcome Home!!
Thanks Rhonda – so glad to be back! Even though nobody understands why as it’s cold and dark here…
